![]() ![]() Introduce new species of animals that pose a danger to Reds, but whose by-products could also be used to further their survival. Limit their tools or give faulty devices so the Laurel's fancy mining equipment becomes more important. Revamp the Clan/Laurel system so winners get better tools, better healthcare. With Obsidian, we saw technological limitations, isolationism, and the introduction of tribalism in an extreme environment, furthering their sense of competition and keeping them too busy to fight their masters. The Society would analyze what events/resources led to the development of the Sons within Red communities and limit those interactions. That way their work still has meaning without prompting questions about a better life elsewhere. That the helium they mine is used to sustain the Vale or something. Make the reds believe there's nothing above them. I think they'd scrape the story about terraforming the planets. The Golds would act as guardian angels, otherworldly beings who bring medics to cure manufactured plagues, technicians to fix their machinery, and the Laurel to the clan who's most obidient. ![]() The Reaper would be recast as a demon who rends your soul if you do not follow the orders of the Old Man's messengers, the Golds. The Vale would be altered to be both carrot and stick instead of just a reprieve from life. This will ensure they could never play such an active role in combat ever again, as well as speeding up changes to their culture as anyone who remembers the old stories quickly dies. Red biology, which was originally enhanced to survive the harsh conditions of mining, would be weakened, lowering their life expectancy even further. The brown caste would be expanded to take up their overworld duties, and the entire red caste would be propagandized into demons from below who once caused untold deaths across the Society and are now locked away in their mines. I agree with other people on here in that I think they'd move all of the reds down into the mines, no longer allowing any to serve above ground in order to alienate then from the other colors. More division between the genders maybe? Just my thoughts on it! If you could destabilize this somehow without sacrificing productivity, that would help too. I think their sense of community and identity as a people contributed a lot to their radicalization. You could employ more social control to foster infighting among the Reds. Natural feuds and rivalries would form on their own as a result of the scarcity, as they wanted to do artificially with Gamma. If you know you can't ever get the carrot, you stop trying. But I think they went wrong in making the carrot unattainable to the majority of them. I think much else would be kept the same- it is beneficial to create scarcity amongst them so they are so tired and worn out that they don't have time to think of more. He would have won through genuine effort and gotten creature comforts, focused on his family. If the Laurel had been a fair contest, Darrow would never have become a gold. Being overly brutal to them is what radicalized them in the first place. ![]() If your comment contains spoilers outside of what is tagged in the title use the following markup: SPOILER Sevro >!Sevro is really into unicorns!<Įveryone is saying they would be more brutal to the Reds but honestly I think the exact opposite.
